Vitamin D
₹1,500
The vitamin D test measures 25-hydroxyvitamin D, the best indicator of the body's vitamin D status. Vitamin D is essential for calcium absorption, bone strength, muscle function, and immunity.
Normal vitamin D levels are 30–100 ng/mL. Levels of 20–29 ng/mL are insufficient, and below 20 ng/mL indicate deficiency.
Vitamin D deficiency symptoms include fatigue, bone pain, muscle weakness, and frequent infections. Deficiency can cause rickets in children and osteoporosis in adults. Very high levels (above 100 ng/mL), usually from over-supplementation, may cause toxicity and high blood calcium.
You should get a vitamin D test if you have bone pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, frequent infections, or hair loss. It is also recommended for people with limited sun exposure, the elderly, pregnant women, people with obesity, kidney or liver disease, or osteoporosis, and those taking vitamin D supplements that need monitoring.
No special preparation is needed for a vitamin D test, and fasting is generally not required. Drink water normally and wear loose sleeves for easy sample collection. Inform your doctor about any vitamin D, calcium, or multivitamin supplements you take. Some labs may advise a short fast, so follow their specific instructions.
No, fasting is generally not required for a vitamin D test. You can eat and drink normally before giving your sample. However, some labs may recommend fasting, and if other tests like blood sugar or a lipid profile are ordered alongside it, you may need to fast for 8–12 hours.
