LIVER FUNCTION TEST WITH GGT
₹800
The liver function test (LFT) with GGT measures bilirubin, SGOT (AST), SGPT (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), total protein, albumin, globulin, and gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) to assess liver health.
High SGOT and SGPT indicate liver cell damage from hepatitis, fatty liver, or drugs. Raised bilirubin causes jaundice. High ALP with high GGT suggests bile duct obstruction or gallstones. Raised GGT is also a sensitive marker of alcohol-related liver damage. Low albumin points to chronic liver disease.
The test helps diagnose and monitor liver and gallbladder disorders.
You should get a liver function test with GGT if you have jaundice, abdominal pain, nausea, dark urine, pale stools, fatigue, or itching. It is also recommended for people with regular alcohol use, fatty liver, hepatitis, obesity, or diabetes, those taking long-term medicines that affect the liver, and during routine health check-ups.
Fasting for 8–12 hours is usually recommended before a liver function test with GGT, and you may drink water during this time. Avoid alcohol for at least 24–48 hours, as it can raise GGT levels. Avoid strenuous exercise beforehand, and inform your doctor about any medicines, supplements, or herbal remedies you take.
Yes, fasting is usually recommended for a liver function test with GGT. You should fast for 8–12 hours before giving your sample, though drinking water is allowed. Also avoid alcohol for at least 24–48 hours beforehand, as it can falsely raise GGT and other liver enzyme levels.
